Fr Menees Recommends Movie, "Fireproof"

A "two-thumbs-up" recommendation for Fireproof (out this weekend) from Fr. Eric Menees, Rector of Anglican Church of the Resurrection, San Marcos, who attended the pre-release review.  If you don't already know, Fr. Menees is especially qualified to recommend to recommend a film with a first responder theme; he serves as chaplain to several emergency services groups in North County.

From an email to his parish:

This Smells Funny...

Anybody else find this story a little bit over-anxious or odd in some other way?

We're quite familiar with Bishop Mathes' pattern of prematurity and over-enthusiasm when it comes to press releases flattering to him, and one is wise to take anything reported on Episcopal Life Online with a grain of salt, but then again, maybe this is the real deal.

Apparently, Bishop MacBurney and his detractors have struck some kind of deal.  Great if so, but I'll gathering a few more facts before I claim to understand exactly what has transpired here.

Most Interesting Seminarian in the World

Our very own Señor Davis Alenskis, now entering his third year at Westminster Theological Seminary, spent the summer visiting  our sister church and mission plants in Peru as well as interning in the Paris of the West, Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Indeed, David had the opportunity to learn from Archbishop Gregory Venables, Most Interesting Bishop in the World [production still in development].  It is a pleasure to know David and pick his learned brain.  As he catechised two of my daughter's prior to their becoming communicant members, I hold him in high regard.  He is a dear brother.

Unexpected Blessings

If you haven't read Tony Snow's essay about the unexpected blessings of cancer, you're in for an insightful encouraging surprise.  I wasn't aware Tony Snow had such strong faith.  Thanks to Resurrection parishioner Darlene Collom for adding this essay to our recent church newsletter.  Due to Christianity Today's policy on reprinting, you can read the essay here.  Hope you're inspired.
