How Does Prop 8 (marriage) Pass While Prop 4 (parental notification) Lose?

Riddle me this.   How is it that the sleeping conservative giant in California wakes up and goes to the polls in favor of proposition 8 but fails to pass the "no-brainer " proposition 4?  Essentially, Californians are saying (for the second time on both accounts) that marriage is definitely one man and one woman but that just about any minor can go have her unborn baby killed at ANY time for ANY reason without ANY pause for reflection.

I was wrong about this one the first time.  I'm wrong again.  How could anyone of conscience vote against proposition 4?  It is nothing less than alarming that in a California election with unprecendented conservative turnout, that

Biden's Bishop Sets Him Straight on Abortion

Joe, when you get fed up with your church correcting you all the time, pay a visit to one of those Episcopal churches across the street.  They've got all kinds of nuance for you on abortion.

You're simply in the wrong church, buddy.

In his interview with The News Journal published Oct. 19, Sen. Joe Biden presents a seriously erroneous picture of Catholic teaching on abortion. He said, “I know that my church has wrestled with this for 2,000 years,” and claimed repeatedly that the Church has a nuanced view of the subject that leaves a great deal of room for uncertainty and debate.

This is simply incorrect. The teaching of the Church is clear and not open to debate. Abortion is a grave sin because it is the wrongful taking of an innocent human life. The Church received the tradition opposing abortion from Judaism. In the Greco-Roman world, early Christians were identifiable by their rejection of the common practices of abortion and infanticide.

The Didache, probably the earliest Christian writing apart from the New Testament, explicitly condemns abortion without exceptions. It tells us there is a “way of life” and a “way of death” and abortion is a part of the way of death. This has been the consistent teaching of the Church ever since.

It was also the position of Protestant reformers without exception.

Warning. I'm about to raise my dress and show a bit of political ankle here.  Avert your eyes.

I'm sure you've already seen this, and it has very little to do with Anglicanism in San Diego, except that it concerns a potentially brighter future for the lives of unborn children in this country.

From the now-famous politico story

South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate "whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”

California Public Schools: Tax Dollars Undermining the Family

Here in California, a 7th grader will likely be given a ticket by a truancy cop if she ditches class and goes surfing.  If that same student, later that day, wants to  have a doctor cut up the unborn baby inside her, the student not only gets to skip class, but her parents never have to approve or even find out what happened.

To our knowledge our six year old hasn't discovered contraceptives, abortions or psychotropic drugs yet, so we'll probably leave him in the public system one more year.

However, for those of you with kids going into 7th grade or higher, make sure you are going in with your eyes open and your opt-out paperwork filed.

Apparently (will we ever really find out?), it's some twisted joke.

Sorry if this sounds a tad harsh, but seriously folks, who is more screwed up here--this bizarre woman or the prestigious university she attends that lets her go this far before they realize something just isn't right?

Just amazing that our society is capable of any of this, regardless of whether it was completely true to begin with or just a stupid hoax all along.
