change is coming

On Bishop Ackerman's Retirement

As you may have heard, today is the first day of the Right Reverend Keith Ackerman's retirement as Diocesan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Quincy (Illinois).  He continues to serve as president of Forward in Faith, North America, the oldest member organization of the Common Cause Partners.

  • Read official announcement here.
  • A short video of Bishop Ackerman which I took in June of this year at the Forward in Faith North America assembly provides a brief encapsulation of his views on orthodoxy, unity, and realignment.

Here in San Diego, we especially thank Bishop Ackerman for his standing offer of episcopal visitation to the parish of St Michael's By The Sea Episcopal Church, Carlsbad.  It is unclear at this point whether that invitation from Bishop Mathes will remain intact or whether Bishop Ackerman's schedule will permit him to visit the people of St. Michaels this month, as hoped.  The encouragement, however, already received by the orthodox in San Diego's Anglican and Episcopal churches from both Bishop Ackerman and his predecessor, Bishop Edward MacBurney, is and will continue to be a gift we give great thanks to God for.

Bishop Ackerman, we continue to pray for your health and continued ministry in Jesus Christ as you and Jo move into this new chapter.

God bless you for those spiritual benefits which you have conferred to so many of us.

May you find rest from your labors and see the fruits thereof.
