Most Interesting Seminarian in the World

Our very own Señor Davis Alenskis, now entering his third year at Westminster Theological Seminary, spent the summer visiting  our sister church and mission plants in Peru as well as interning in the Paris of the West, Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Indeed, David had the opportunity to learn from Archbishop Gregory Venables, Most Interesting Bishop in the World [production still in development].  It is a pleasure to know David and pick his learned brain.  As he catechised two of my daughter's prior to their becoming communicant members, I hold him in high regard.  He is a dear brother.

Article: The Very Rev. William A. Thompson on the Mission and Role of a Bishop

A la Stand Firm, where the comments have, appropriately, applauded Thompson's letter. If you don't know already, Fr. Bill Thompson is Dean of the Western Convocation, a regional district of the Anglican Communion Network. All of the churches represented on this site are supporters or members of the ACN.

Highly recommended reading, especially the "caution to us all" part toward the end where he underscores what is a very real question in my mind.... Will we allow ourselves to be under authority of such a bishop?

... A major reason our Anglican heritage in North America is in the shape it is today is that when clergy and laity participated in electing bishops, they did not have in mind these five principles. The next time you have anything to say about who your bishop will be (whether you are in TEC or out of it), it is essential to use these criteria when making that selection. If we do our church will prosper, if not, it will fail.

Call to Common Ministry

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. - Ephesians 4:15-16

What a blessing it was to observe the historic Call to Common Ministry meeting held at St. James, Newport Beach Saturday, June 2nd. For those wondering what this is all about, my understanding from yesterday is that an executive committee has now been formed, with the blessing of participating global south primates and bishops, whose job it will be to begin coordinating communications, programs, and initiatives in service to Common Cause Anglican churches throughout Southern California.

This Weekend: Bishop MacBurney and Call to Common Ministry

This weekend promises to be an exciting one.

San Diego Anglicans will be blessed to have in town The Right Reverend Edward MacBurney, retired Diocesan of Quincy. He will be visiting Anglican Church of the Resurrection, San Marcos and Holy Trinity Anglican, Ocean Beach, both situated in the Diocese of Argentina under Archbishop of the Southern Cone, Gregory Venables. Conveniently enough, Richard and I attend those churches and will provide reports here.

Also, this Saturday, your site editors will be up at St. James Newport Beach to take in goings ons at the "Call to Common Ministry." More on this event to come, but suffice it to say it constitutes a major step toward the consolidation and unification of biblically orthodox Anglicanism in this region. Stay tuned.
